Like Clockwork...

Hi All,

Just like my Chemo literature outlined I hit day 14 and have begun to
lose my hair. While I am tempted to go to the nearest Barber and have them shave it all off I am listening to what Mike and my Doc have suggested and will wait a few more days to see what exactly my hair will do on its own.

Will it all fall out?
Will it thin out tremendously?

Will I have patches of Baldness?

I met a woman recently who told me she awoke one morning after her hair started to fall out and looked like Bozo the Clown which prompted her to immediately get her head shaved. And no, she did not awake to find she now had a bulbous red nose.
So I am simply waiting. A lesson in patience I suppose. In the meantime I am wearing scarves so as to keep my hair to myself and not share it with complete strangers. Monday I attended a Look Good Feel Better workshop sponsored by the American Cancer Society and hosted at St. Joseph's Hospital. It was a nice way to spend the afternoon. I found a lot of the information really useful. Once again I found myself validated with the choices that I have made and once again I am counting my blessings and expressing my gratitude to have such amazing support through all of this.
I got the following in an email today and it made me laugh out loud. So I hope you will
enjoy it too. Thank you NP for sending another funny thing my way.
I rear-ended a car this morning on the way to work. There we were pulled over alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car and . . .you know how sometimes you just get sooo stressed and then suddenly some little thing will strike you as the funniest thing in the world? Well I could NOT believe it . . . the guy was a DWARF! He stormed back to my car, looked up at me, and said, 'I AM NOT HAPPY!' So I looked down at him and replied, 'Well, which one are you then?
I am off to bed. Not sure who I will awake looking like but I will be sure to let you all know. Here are a couple of thoughts:

Whatever or Whoever I end up looking like -- I will be sure to post new pics in the next week or so. Sweet dreams.

Of course you are concerned about your hair..The blessing is that the loss is only going to be temporary...You still have many options awaiting down the road one of which is a hair piece with your exact color and specifications. You are, and will remain, the beautiful you. Look, you kicked the big C out and it cannot take much more from you...You are the declared winner...

Who knows??? You may find this "new you" so cool (both temperaturewise and fashionwise) that you will choose never to go back to that sameold sameold hair thing again!!

Cheers!

I read your latest blog with Julia (age 7) standing over my shoulder. She looked at the photos of the bald celebrities and asked, "Did they have cancer?" I answered with a no and what I thought was a explaination. She replied, "OK Mom, whatever, but I know Marla's hair WILL grow back and anyway, all that really matters is that she gets better..and I KNOW she will!! And anyway, people are the most beautiful from the inside...so for now she can be bald and beautiful. Later she can be hairy and beautiful!"

We all embrace your beauty, inside and out!!!

Hugs

Marla, how do you manage to write so eloquently, so movingly, and also so darn humorously through all this? U am in awe.

I am so glad I saw you last night at the graduation; it was great to spend some time with you and to see you.

I've missed a few recent posts, and was thrilled to read about your positive progress. I guess the hair loss, etc., is all part of the journey, and I admire the way that you are taking it in stride. Not that every day is good, I know, but still, your attitude is an inspiration to me.

I'll be by one day next week with dinner, and now that summer is here, we would love to have Sully over one day to hang out with us. I'll set something up with you guys.

Love,
Susan, Larry and Matthew

o my god. i love the dwarf story. i want to believe it's true. if only we could all be so clever so quickly. and by the way marla, i don't think you'd ever look like bozo (tho i'd like to see that picture. especially if you wear a red nose!) much energy! xxoo

I'm sure you'll look better than Bald Britney. I'm thinking more of a Demi look for you. Can't wait to see what you look like and what you decide to do. The schmata look is in. I guess this is full circle for the Schmats, don't you think??

Mar..

Your latest entry made me laugh out loud and then cry...No matter what your head looks like on the outside you are and will remain one of the most beautiful people I have ever know on the inside...
